Who we are

Recovery shouldn’t be lonely — and getting back to work shouldn’t cost you your health.

KND Community Organisation supports people living with long-term illness or mental health challenges. We bring together peer support, practical wellbeing tools, volunteering and employment support, so people are not left to piece it together alone.

We believe in rebuilding lives through connection, not just services. Everything moves at your pace, and slowing down is never a failure.

Who we support
Adults living with long-term illness or mental health challenges, and the people close to them.
How we work
Non-clinical, community-based and person-led — alongside your GP or health team, never instead of them.
What we focus on
Confidence, connection, wellbeing and, when you are ready, sustainable work.

How support works

Five steps, taken at your pace

KND’s support model builds from a first conversation to, when you are ready, a sustainable return to work. Choose a stage to see what it involves.
More about our approach

Stage 1. Warm connection

Stage 1 of 5

What happens
You talk with someone from KND about what is going on, what you would like to change and how your energy tends to vary. There is no long form and no judgement.
Who’s involved
You and a member of the KND team. A family member or supporter can join if you would like.
What you can expect
Time to be heard. You decide how much to share, and you never need to give a diagnosis.
What comes next
Together you decide whether to put a simple plan in place — or just take away some information.

Employment & return to work

A return to work that protects your wellbeing

Returning to work after long-term illness is one of the biggest steps in recovery. KND’s employment support starts with your health and energy, then helps you rebuild the confidence and practical skills to make work sustainable.

  1. Confidence

Recognising what you already bring, and feeling ready to talk about it.

  2. Workplace skills

Communication, planning and managing energy through a working day.

  3. Employment readiness

Job search, applications, interviews and conversations about adjustments.

  4. A sustainable pathway

A gradual transition designed around your health — not a race.

The programme

Structured Support Programme

For people who would like longer-term, joined-up support — from a first plan to a steady transition into work.

  1. Stage 1: Assessment & planning

A supportive conversation-based assessment of your strengths, challenges and goals, turned into a clear roadmap you agree with.

    • Understanding your health, energy and circumstances
    • Identifying strengths and transferable skills
    • Agreeing priorities and a first step
  2. Stage 2: Support & development

Ongoing guidance, group sessions and practical tools to build confidence, manage day-to-day challenges and stay connected.

    • Peer support groups and wellbeing workshops
    • One-to-one mentorship
    • Skills training and volunteering
  3. Stage 3: Transition to employment

Focused preparation for work — confidence, skills and a gradual pathway into employment that respects your health needs.

    • Job search and application support
    • Preparing for employer conversations and adjustments
    • Planning a phased or gradual start

What support can look like

Every route is different

These are illustrative examples of how KND’s services can fit together — not the stories of real individuals.
  • If you have been off work for a long time

Support might start with rebuilding a daily routine and joining a small group, before any talk of work. Later, employment support could help you identify suitable roles and plan a gradual start.

  • If anxiety makes leaving the house hard

You might begin with an online group, camera off, just listening. Over time — and only if you want to — that could lead to an in-person workshop or a volunteer buddy.

  • If you are back at work but struggling

Support could focus on managing energy through the working day, preparing for a conversation about adjustments, and finding people who understand.
