FAQs
Questions people often ask us
Straight answers about getting support from KND, what we can and can’t do, and how we look after your information.
Getting started
What to expect when you first get in touch.
Who is KND for?
KND supports adults living with long-term illness or mental health challenges who want to rebuild confidence, connect with others and move towards meaningful activity or work. We also recognise the impact on carers and family members.
Do I need a diagnosis or a referral?
You do not need to share a diagnosis to get in touch — our forms never ask for one. If a particular group or programme has any entry requirements, we will explain them clearly before you join.
What happens after I send the support form?
A member of the KND team reads your message and contacts you using the method you prefer, to talk about what might help. Nothing is decided without you, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
I am not sure what I need. Can I still get in touch?
Yes. Choose “Not sure” on the support form, or request an advice call. Many people start there, and working it out together is part of what we do.
Services and the programme
How KND’s support fits together.
Do I have to join the full programme?
No. You can use individual services — for example a peer group or a workshop — without joining the structured programme. The programme is there for people who would like longer-term, joined-up support.
What if I need to slow down or take a break?
That is okay. Support is designed to move at your pace. Tell us, and we will adjust or pause things with you.
Will you pressure me to go back to work?
No. Work is one possible goal, not a requirement. For people who do want to work, our employment support focuses on a return that is realistic and sustainable for their health.
Safety, privacy and limits
Being clear about what KND can — and cannot — do.
Is KND an emergency or crisis service?
No. KND cannot respond to emergencies, and our forms and online spaces are not monitored around the clock. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent mental health help, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or call Samaritans free on 116 123.
Is KND a medical or clinical service?
No. KND offers non-clinical, community-based support. We do not diagnose, treat or give medical advice, and our support is designed to sit alongside — not replace — care from your GP or health team.
What do you do with the information I send?
We use it only to respond to you and provide the support you ask for. We ask for the minimum we need, we never ask for medical records through the website, and we never sell your data. Our privacy policy explains the details.
Is what I say in a group kept confidential?
Groups agree that what is shared stays in the group. The one exception is where someone may be at serious risk of harm, when safeguarding responsibilities mean information may need to be shared.
Volunteering and donating
Ways to support KND’s work.
Can I volunteer if I have health conditions myself?
Yes. Lived experience is valuable, and we aim to find roles that fit around your health — including roles you can do flexibly.
How can I donate?
Our donate page explains the ways to give that are currently available. Using KND’s support never depends on donating.
Still have a question?
Send us a message, or tell us what you’d like help with and we’ll get back to you.
